P. Michael Blair

I have the usual link back to my site in the author box. I suspect from all the reading I’ve done that Google and the other two major search engines will ultimately penalize most of the copies of my article that might be placed on other websites, including maybe even mine although I am the author.

However I just would like to know other opinions and whether or not having the same article on my site where the link points to is a disadvantage or not.

I am aware I could change the article somewhat so the article on my site is somewhat different, but that might have to be a significant change so the article on my site would not be considered a duplicate article.

If it is not detrimental to have the same article on my site, would placing the article on my site first, before I submit it to article directories? Please provide details to this and I will rank u high on Best Answer

There are probably as many definitions for duplicate content as there are people out there trying to define it. Don’t confuse yourself trying to sort it all out. It’s simple the way Google spells it out:
“Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar…In some cases, content is duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or garner more traffic via popular or long-tail queries.”

There are a couple of easy ways to avoid this. Never put the same content on two different domain names you own, or use the same blocks of text across different pages within your domain(s).

There is a lot more to this debate than this simple answer. If you like, I can give you a free copy of the eBook “The Duplicate Content Debate”. Click the link below in the resource box. It’s part of a free bundle I created for the Great Olympic Giveaway event and comes with the 8 Minute Article Writer. You may not need that bit of software, so you can just delete it, if you like.

    Good luck!

P.S. Your website, is BEAUTIFUL! Good job!

Instead of answering you question directly, I’m gona tell you how I get around this.

I never duplicate content. Ever. Anything that goes to an article site is different than what goes to my website. It takes me about 10-20min per article, so I don’t mind creating 3-4 different versions from the same idea and distributing them (1 to my site and 3 to article sites). Once you know what you’re writing about the rest of the article is easy.

If I want to reuse a bit in an article I use “…” and reference my own article in the writing. If you do that on your website it’s fine, but if you’re going to do this in an article website check their guidelines first!
